A: Yes, though the ownership has changed over the years, the quality of Moon Nurseries horticultural products has remained the same since 1767.

Q: How long has Moon been in business?

A: Moon began operation under the ownership of Walt Flowers, in Yardley, Pennsylvania in 1971. Moon began production in Chesapeake City, Maryland in 1989 and is currently operating under the leadership of John Pursell. Today, we are proud to say that Moon Nurseries is now an employee owned and operated company.

Q: Do you sell to the public?

A: No, we sell to wholesale customers only. But we are happy to provide you with recommendations of where you can purchase Moon grown trees and shrubs.

Q: Is there a minimum order?

A: No, not for pick-up orders.

Q: Is there a minimum order for shipping?

A: Yes. We ship primarily on flatbed and box trailers, so approximately $2,000 for containers or $1,500 for B & B.

Q: How far do you ship?

A: We ship as far north as Maine, as far west as Wisconsin and as far south as Alabama. However, we can make arrangements for customers located outside of this region.

Q: Do you ship on your own boxes?

A: Yes, set up with a 3 shelf system.

Q: Can I tour the nursery?

A: Yes, please call ahead to schedule your personal tour.

Q: How can I become a Moon customer?

A: Just pick up the phone! A member of our sales team will be more than happy to walk you through the process.

Q: How many trees and plants do you sell each year?

A: Over 50,000 trees and 400,000 container plants.

Q: Do you grow new varieties of plants every year?

A: Yes, we typically plant new varieties that J. Frank Schmidt introduces.

Q: Do you propagate your own material?

A: We propagate approximately 40% of our container stock.

Q: Do you summer dig?

A: We do with some evergreens, but most deciduous trees are dug in the spring.

Q: How many greenhouses do you have?

A: 365, all of which are 450 feet long.

Q: Where do you purchase your lining out stock?

A: We receive our field stock from nurseries like J. Frank Schmidt and Son in Oregon, and similar growers that share our commitment to quality and our enthusiasm for horticulture.

Q: When do you take orders?

A: Anytime. However. It’s best to place your spring order the previous summer to ensure availablity.

Q: Can I come tag my own order?

A: Yes, most tagging begins in October.

Q: Do you sell to mass merchandisers and chain stores?

A: No

Q: Do you travel to trade shows?

A: Yes. PANTS, MANTS, CENTS, ASLA, New England Grows and other regional shows and field days.

Q: How many sales reps do you have?

A: Moon has an experienced sales staff of six.

Q: Will I have a personal salesperson?

A: Yes. Your salesperson is available to you for consultation, tagging, planning and purchasing.
