View Our Product CatalogMoon began operation in Yardley, Pennsylvania in 1971 under the ownership of Walt Flowers and began production at the current Chesapeake City, Maryland location under the leadership of John Pursell in 1989. Today, Moon Nurseries is an employee owned and operated company producing over 40,000 trees and 350,000 container plants a year from our Maryland nurseries.
Ideally located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore between the Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware Bay, our trees and shrubs are nurtured in a rich, fertile, loamy soil with a warm, moist extended growing season.
But that’s just the beginning! Each tree and plant is meticulously cared for by hand.
Each tree and plant is meticulously cared for by hand. Trees are fortified with frequent fertilization; drip irrigated for proper root development; monitored to prevent disease and pests; staked to encourage straight trunk growth; and pruned and spaced to promote uniform head growth.
Our plants are given every opportunity to be their best. As a Moon customer you deserve nothing less.
Our container stock is started from the highest quality liners (many of which we propagate ourselves); potted in variety specific soil mixes, which include slow release fertilizers for optimal root and shoot growth; irrigated regularly; monitored for pest and disease control; properly spaced and aggressively pruned for full growth and uniformity.
Our goal is not only to grow the best quality plant material available, but also to provide the highest quality service and value for your business – through quick delivery, prompt response to customer requests and personal service from our sales team.
